Why can’t i get on my world of warcraft account.?

I try to double click the icon on my desktop then enter my username and password. Then it asks me if i am in the united states, oceanic, or latin america. then if i want pvp, role playing and that. I select what i want then i find the realm that my charecters are on but in the population category it says offline and won’t let me get on. Why can’t I
