How did Leroy Jenkins become so famous in World of Warcraft lore?
I’ve seen the video and it seems like the Southpark World of Warcraft episode was even based on it.
I think that the widespread appeal of that video is that all of us (MMORPG players) know people that do things like that. If you’ve ever played WoW, you may have even been in that position yourself!
Some of the high level monsters in the game require organization to kill. If someone leaves the group and rushes in they pull the monsters to them (pull aggro we call it) and will, every time!, run back to the group. If the group isn’t prepared to take on the mob (monsters) everyone dies…this is what happened in the video. Leroy charges in, can’t take the heat, and runs out with the mob and everyone dies…gamers HATE dying.
The video was hilarious and it spread like wildfire through the WoW community, we loved it because we have all been there!
