Why are Murloc’s so popular in the World of Warcraft?

Like everyone keeps talking about Murlocs
They made shirts at hot topic and all these different stores.

I’ve played World Of Warcraft for a while, and i see murloc’s as just another creature to fight, nothing special about them.

Would anyone like to enlighten me?

I think it’s because of the sound they make. It’s just one of those things that happens for no reason. It’s funny though.
